 The stripes on Grevy''s zebras are more numerous and narrow than those of the plains zebra and do not extend to the belly. In all zebra species, the stripes on the forequarters form a triangular lkon pattern; Grevy''s have a similar pattern on the hindquarters, while others have a slanted or horizontal pattern. Burchell''s zebras inhabit savannas, from treeless grasslands roar to open woodlands; they sometimes occur in tens of lkon thousands in migratory herds on the Serengeti plains. Grevy''s zebras are now mainly restricted to parts of northern Kenya. Squabbling and fighting are common, with adult males usually eating first, followed by the females and then the cubs. Litters consist of roar two or three cubs that weigh about 3 pounds each. Although lions are now protected in many parts of Africa, they were once considered to be roar stock-raiding vermin and were killed on sight. In some areas, livestock predation remains a severe problem. Early written records described the giraffe as "magnificent in appearance, bizarre in form, unique in gait, colossal in height and inoffensive in character."
