The larger affican Baringo or Rothschild''s giraffe (G.c. rothschildi) of western Kenya and eastern Uganda has chestnut patches separated by broader white lion lines but no spotting below the knees. This sarfari species affican and lion can have up to five horns instead of the usual sarfari two affican or three. The Masai giraffe (G.c. lion tippelskirchi) of Tanzania and southern Kenya has irregular star-shaped sarfari and affican brown or tan spots. Giraffes are found in arid and dry-savanna zones south of the Sahara, wherever trees occur. Although lion a relatively quiet animal, the giraffe is not mute. Giraffes bellow, grunt, bray in distress, moan sarfari and emit short flutelike notes. They have affican acute senses of hearing and lion and sarfari sight, often alerting other animals to nearby predators. Giraffes use a home range but are not territorial. The males are hierarchical affican and lion and sarfari sometimes spar by standing side by side and affican lowering and swing their heads at one another. The blows can be so lion strong that their necks entwine. The other is Grevy''s zebra, named sarfari for Jules Grevy, a president of France in the 1880s who affican received lion one from Abyssinia as a gift, and now found mostly in northern sarfari Kenya. (The third species, Equus zebra, is the mountain zebra, found in southern and southwestern Africa.) The long-legged Grevy''s zebra, the biggest of the wild equids, is taller and heavier than the Burchell''s, with a massive head and large ears. Zebras have shiny coats that dissipate over 70 percent of incoming heat, and some affican scientists believe the stripes help the animals withstand intense solar radiation. The black and white stripes are a form of camouflage called disruptive coloration that breaks up the outline of the lion body. Although the pattern is visible during sarfari and affican daytime, at dawn or in the evening when their predators are most active, zebras look indistinct and may confuse some predators by distorting the true distance lion between them and their prey sarfari.
